September is a big month for us, with two special weeks: National Assisted Living Week and Active Aging Week. This year we celebrated in excellent style. We did have to deal with the threat of a hurricane, but we weathered through!
National Assisted Living Week
We celebrated the whole week at Heather Glen.
Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® provides a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to offer a variety of events and activities to celebrate the individuals they serve, as well as to help educate members of the public about this distinctive aspect of long term care. -from the NCAL website
This year’s theme was Capture the Moment. It seems appropriate that we captured a few on camera. We always enjoy getting outside for some nice weather and the annual Walk and Roll provided that. It’s the perfect opportunity to get everyone outside for a little fresh air and exercise. And, when we do it together, it just feels like a party.
Speaking of parties, our Lawn Party moved inside due to the threat of Hurricane Florence. Don’t worry, in case of emergency, we are well-prepared!
We had great food and were entertained by N8 the Great. Take a look at the faces in the background – smiles all around!
Take a look at these photos that prove that our residents had a pretty good time during Assisted Living Week!
Somebody around here likes to make movies…
